Must Haves for the Perfect Summer Roadtrip

Author: Jeremy Johnson

For the perfect summer road trip, there are a few must-haves.

Things To Do

First is entertainment. Music, movies, and books for the whole family. You've got to have music to keep you grooving all the way there. Make sure your selection is varied enough to last the whole way and to satisfy your every mood. Bring some sing along music if you're traveling with kids, make sure it's something you can stand to listen to again and again and again.

Along that same line, you've got to have the portable DVD player if kids are in the car. (Head phones for each kid are not essential, but really, really nice!) And don't forget books on tape, or CD, which is what I recommend. They are a great way to entertain the whole family and perhaps interject a moment of classic literature.

Be Prepared

Next, remember the emergency supplies. A map is a must have as you may come across road construction, a natural disaster (mud slide, forest fire, etc) that will send you out of your way. You can waste hours if you miss that turn after the detour! Also, a good emergency travel kit with food, water, flashlight, and a well stocked first aid kit for anything unexpected.

Don't forget to have your engine fluids checked and make sure you have wiper fluid, a spare tire, and anything special your car might need. A cell phone is a no-brainer, and antibacterial wipes are always handy.

Food

Snacks are a natural part of a road trip. My family is partial to Red Vines and Peanut M and Ms. We always carry water and make a point to refill the snack bin along the way. If you're traveling during extreme weather (hot or cold) or into remote areas, carry some extra food and water, there have been enough stories in the news about stranded travelers, that you'd be silly not to.

Memories

A road trip forces you to spend time with the other people in the car. Make that time special and happy by being prepared and making the effort to connect to each other (that means turn the electronics off from time to time). Don't forget your camera. So often in our hurry to get there, we forget the adventure along the way. Stop at the view points, take a side trip to ah historic landmark, have fun along the way and record it in pictures.

Bakrid Festival in Kerala

Author: Dev Sri

All over Kerala, the Muslim community celebrates Bakrid, the great celebration. It usually falls on the tenth day of Lunar year.

The celebration is conducted in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim who was willing to kill his only son Ismail by the command of God. When he was about to kill his son, God send a goat inside of killing him. As a remembrance of this act Muslims sacrifices a goat or Bakr (Urdu).

As per the Islamic belief, Ibrahim took his son to Mount Mina to perform this act. God was testing his faith and found Ibrahim to be trust worthy. Since the incident took place in Mount Mina near Mecca, a lot of people from Kerala flock to this place known for Haj Pilgrimage. All over Kerala on this day, is echoed with the declaration of Muslims- Allahu Akbar that means God is Great. All Muslims rise up in the morning with a great festive mood and reciting the same. They celebrate their day in the morning by gathering in the mosques where the Imam recites prayers and gives talks on how to go on with the commandments of God and lead a holy life like Ibrahim.

In all Muslim homes of Kerala, people celebrate the fete with great enthusiasm preparing mouth-watering meals, offerings greetings, paying visits to the dear and near ones, engage themselves in dancing and singing and more. Promoting brotherhood and affection to the fellow people and thereby showing the gratitude towards God that is what all Muslim celebrations bring about.

How to Avoid Hidden Costs on Your Next Car Rental in Spain

Author: Rudi Van Der Zalm

The first and most important advice is that you should never be blinded by a cheap, fabulous day rate for the rental vehicle you're planning to book. Depending on your travel destination a lot off extra charges may apply, like airport surcharges, insurance, sales taxes, licensing fees, local and state taxes, concession recovery fees, customer facility charges, mandatory theft protection, young driver fees to name just a few.

By the time all the extra charges are added onto your bill, you may find yourself paying almost double the cheap car rental base rate you were quoted.

How can you avoid paying almost double that fantastic base rate?
Read the following tips on the surcharges and tricks for how to cut the expenses you're most likely to face at the desk of the local car hire company.

Airport Taxes
If you have booked your car hire rental at an airport location, in many cases the car hire agency is contractually required to pay a concession fee to the airport. It does not matter if you collect the vehicle when you get of the plane or if you go to an airport location when you're already staying in town. So don't try to be smart by not picking up your rental car as soon as you get off the plane, go to your hotel first and then return to the rental office at the airport to pick up the car. You will have to add up the additional expenses (taxi or any other local transport) to the price of the rent a car.

Make sure to check if the concession fee (sometimes called airport tax) is included in the quoted price, some online car hire booking engines do not mention this charge at all until the moment you're almost ready to confirm the car hire booking online.

Local and state taxes
In Europe local and state taxes, sometimes also called sales tax vary considerably from country to country. Depending on the country of origin you probably can't avoid European value-added tax (VAT), which can be as high as 25 percent, depending on the country you're travelling to. In some cases you will be charged a small fee which is used by the local governments to fund local development projects or improvements to the infrastructure. It is important to know that in some countries you may be entitled to a total or partial refund of the VAT, occasionally this can greatly reduce the final cost of the service of the car hire company you're booking your vehicle with.

Insurance
One of the most common extra charges is for the insurance, usually referred to by the car hire companies as Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) or Loss Damage Waiver (LDW). For an extra amount per day (the so-called Excess Waiver), you can avoid liability for any damage to the vehicle, provided you're not found guilty of gross negligence. Basic insurance is compulsory in most European countries and built into the basic car rental cost.

Before you sign up for the extra insurance make sure if it is really worthwhile to do so. Some credit cards also provide additional insurance when you rent a car. Apart from the CDW-LDW the most common insurance options are the Additional Liability Insurance (ALI), the Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) or the Personal Effects Coverage (PEC) which you can purchase from the car hire company at the time that you collect your rental vehicle.

A Short Guide To Finding Ski Holiday Insurance

Author: Anna Stenning

Taking a short ski holiday break is a popular choice for many people, especially families. Choosing a destination can often be a difficult decision to make if you are a first timer on the ski slopes, but for experienced skiers this is an easy decision as they are more likely to visit the same place over and again. Once you have become familiar with the slopes in a certain area, you become more confident in your choice of ski resorts.

However, although skiing is a fun activity it is also high risk and no matter how experienced one is at skiing, there is no excuse for not preparing prior to your trip. Ski holiday insurance is essential for everybody, one fall or accident could cost you a fortune in medical expenses. Furthermore, you are more likely to be in a foreign country, so you may not be familiar with the health system there, nor know how to speak the same language.

Finding the right insurance policy can be a time consuming effort, if you do not know which policy is the right one for you. Many people over-complicate this process, when in fact they only need to concentrate on a few important key elements before purchasing their insurance. Costs of insurance vary, depending upon your needs. Therefore, the main point is to research into the pricing to avoid paying a hefty amount.

Insurance policies offer variety of choices. Depending on your experience in skiing, as a beginner your best bet is to buy insurance that covers the cost of medical bills and third party injuries. In the event of a third party injury, you may face further financial liability or court proceedings - all of which will need to be covered. Medical bills can vary in different countries, France is possibly the cheapest in medical insurance, however, it is best to have this covered as the last thing you will want is to face a large bill whilst being treated.

There is also the cost of air ambulances and helicopter lifts for when an accident does occur. The most devastating accidents can leave your friends or families at a loss from you, faced with astronomical costs and bills to cover too. Not all ski holiday insurance policies, cover for air ambulances, so you will need to check and re-check your terms and conditions. Most insurance policies will not take responsibility for deliberate breaches such as skiing out of bounds and on days where bad weather report has been announced.

The individuals need to take responsibility of their own actions; therefore, another important thing to remember is to use your common sense. If you are forewarned or find red tap blocking you from skiing down the slope, avoid causing yourself and others trouble and stick to the rules. They are there for a reason and for your own safety.

Always get to know what your insurance policy covers, as most people do not know; this again will become a problem in the event of an accident as you may try to make a claim and find that you are not eligible. Look for the things you are not covered for such as theft, damage to possessions, replacement of equipment etc. Sometimes this may not be included, so it is best not to assume that you are automatically covered for all of this.

Finally do not forget - you may lose your own equipment or forget to take your lift passes. You may also find that skiing may be cancelled at a certain resort, or you may want to travel to another resort. Some insurance policies will cover for these, which will save you the extra expense.

Emililia Romagna, The Food Capital Of Italy

Author: Harwood E Woodpecker

Italy is the culinary capital of Europe. I'm sure the French and Spanish would argue that point but they wouldn't win. The British and Germans certainly wouldn't argue. Within Italy there is roughly twenty individual regions and each one has a different outlook on food.

A pasta dish cooked in Sardinia will be slightly different to a pasta dish cooked in Lazio and Rome. This is what set Italy apart from other countries, the uniqueness with which they approach their food and cooking.

Emilia-Romagna is the Daddy of Italian food regions, incorporating such cities as Parma, Bologna and Modena it's not difficult to see why.
But what sets Emilia-Romagna apart from other regions in Italy

The delicatessen stores and cuisine of Emilia-Romagna offer everything the palate could desire: splendid hams and fresh mortadella, tasty parmesan, an endless variety of homemade pasta served with irresistible sauces, sumptuous meat dishes, tangy game, sweet or savoury cakes and pastries, delicious desserts, light, sweet wines and, not least, the most splendid vinegar in the world, aceto bahamim tradizionale, which is only made by a handful of old-established producers.

One reason for the incredible variety of its cuisine is that the region is made up of two different areas: Emilia, the area between the Po valley and northern Tuscany, and Romagna, the mountainous country with the Adriatic coast to the east. The fertile Emilia contributes pasta, dairy produce, and fine meat, while the sometimes rough and inaccessible Romagna offers aromatic herbs, tangy game, and fish dishes from the coast.

The menu is completed by specialties from the cities. Parma is proud of its ham and culatello, Bologna offers the most exquisite mortadella, the best lasagne, and the most delicious tortellini in the world. Piacenza is the home of tortellini,

Reggio Emilia is famous for its braised meat and erbazzone, Ferrara is the sausage capital, and in Modena they serve the incomparably tasty zampone, or stuffed pig trotters. In Emilia-Romagna they live off good food in two senses.

Local specialties end up on their own plates but have also long been produced for export, thus contributing to the wealth of the region.

In the Middle Ages, the rest of the world already held Parma ham and parmesan cheese in high esteem, and no other corner of Italy is so densely packed with small, medium, and large food companies. Although specialties from Emilia-Romagna are now obtainable all over the world, it is best to get to know them on the spot.

Over a glass of Lambrusco and a piadina, a traditional dough cake cooked over an open fire, you can have a cosy chat with the Emilians and the Romagtloli about the only disputed subject in the region's cuisine: which is the tastiest. pork crackling the rather dry version from Emilia or the fat, juicy one they prefer in Romagna?

Nothing else can be disputed regarding Emilia-Romagna's gastronomic heritage, when ever holidaying in Italy beat a path to Emilia-Romagna and be prepared for a culinary treat and don't worry about that diet. This is all good wholesome food.

Favorite Camping Memory

Author: Robert

I was recently going through the garage getting the camping gear together for an upcoming trip and was just flooded with memories from my childhood. Some noise brought me back to reality and I realized with a chuckle a tear had formed in my eye. That is how strong the memories of camping are for me.

This one memory of camping was so fun I thought I would share it with you.

I was just a young boy, maybe 8 or 10 years old. My family often went camping. My dad loved to hunt and fish. One of my favorite destinations was the beach. The surf, the waves, the breeze, it was a whole different world. There was so much to explore and feel and touch. Camping at the beach will always be my favorite memories.

This camping trip was especially memorable. It was a day unlike any other. We arrived at the beach and frantically chose a spot for the tent. Dad was anxious to get in the water and start fishing. I was just anxious to get in the water. The day was full of adventure and after a long day we finally snuggled into our sleeping bags. Camping at the beach was great because you could always hear the roar of the waves. This night the waves seemed closer than usual I thought as I dozed off.

I awoke in the middle of the night with waves crashing inside the tent. The full moon had caused an extremely high tide and the tent was engulfed with water. I awoke to screaming and commotion and fell right off my sleeping bag down into the cold water. I rose to my knees just in time to catch a wave right in the face. I laughed aloud at the same time I screamed.

It was the absolute funniest thing you have ever seen. This camping trip to the beach was hilarious. Mom and Dad running around screaming as the sleeping bags and camping gear were floating away on the waves. I ran and jumped with glee. I laughed until I cried. It was the funniest thing I will ever remember in my life.

I don’t remember much else about that camping trip. I am not sure if we stayed or went home. I will just never forget that gleeful night under the stars with waves crashing into the tent. This truly was one of those great camping moments. Over the years there were many, but this one will always be my favorite.

So what is your favorite camping trip?

Haunted Hawaii.. Oahu Ghost Tours Take You to the Edge

Author: Ali Kendall

Interested in Haunted Hawaii?

On Haunted Honolulu's Oahu Ghost Tours, guests are taken to some of the most haunted places on O’ahu, if not in all of the islands. The tour takes you close-up and allows you to witness firsthand these very unique places…from the much feared Night Marchers, to the places where sacrifices were made to ancient gods and goddesses of Hawai’i, and to the more modern haunts, like those of old hospitals that housed sick children during World War II. From orbs, to extreme and instant temperature changes, to anomalies that seem to have no source.... Many of these places are history by day, and haunts by night!

I have been on this tour a number of times, and I can tell you first hand that the guides are very experienced - absolute experts at telling the stories of these spooky places. All stories are true, and all sites are real. Historical and ancestral information is used, as well as eye witness accounts. Hawaiian ghost tours are not like the typical ghost tours you may be familiar with on the mainland or in other locations around the world. As Hawaiians have their own way of dealing with the supernatural, you may see and witness several ceremonial events at the places visited. All of these events are important to the Hawaiian and their personal beliefs. Please be respectful of these. Also, some of the sites visited may not have a particular story behind the actual haunt. The location may be just a reputed hotspot where paranormal activity is extremely high and ghosts have made it their home for a reason that cannot be explained.

Oahu Ghost Tours have three different tours available.

The first is a walking tour called Honolulu City Haunts. On this tour, you’ll be visiting several locations in Downtown Honolulu where supernatural events are still happening today. From visiting the former residence of Hawaii’s monarchy, to the location of a terrible modern day murder, close encounters are always possible! This is approximately a one mile walk, so I recommend wearing comfortable shoes.

The second tour called Orbs of Oahu is a driving tour. If ‘chicken skin’ is what you’re looking for, this is the tour for you! On this very intense and spooky tour, you’ll be taken around the southern part of the island as you make dead stops at some of the island’s most haunted locations of all. Many of these sites are modern day haunts, and many were made that way from terrible events of the past. This tour includes a visit to the infamous and very haunted site called Morgan’s Corner, made famous in countless books and tales.

Finally, for those who want to experience ancient Hawaii, from the dwelling places of the Fire goddess, Pele, to sacred places built overnight by Hawaii’s legendary little people, the Mehehune, to ancient petroglyphs, Oahu Ghost Tours® has a day tour called Sacred Spirits. On this 4 to 5 hour tour, you’ll visit some of the most sacred Native Hawaiian spots on Oahu.

Bring a camera (fast speed film recommended), and be prepared for what may lie ahead. I know this will be one of the most exciting tours you’ve ever experienced!

The Uss Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor

Author: Ali Kendall

USS Arizona

The USS Arizona is the final resting place for over 1100 American crew members who were killed during the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. A stirring reminder of the historic battle which propelled the United States into World War II, this memorial is a must see while you are on the Island of Oahu.

Admission is Free

The memorial is free, but you'll need to get there early, preferably by 8am (opens at 7:30am). If you get there after 10am the lines can get quite long and you may spend a couple of hours in line. The Battleship USS Missouri and Submarine USS Bowfin are in the same area - interesting to see naturally, but it's okay to skip them if you're pressed for time.

Personal Reflections

There is a short, but very well written blog entry from Bergita Asuncion detailing her recent trip to the memorial. In her final reflection, she describes her visit as a very solemn experience. The Arizona staf encourage absolute quiet while visiting the memorial so that each visitor can ponder their own individual thoughts.

BTW, Pearl Harbor is next door to Aloha Stadium if you're in town for the Aloha Bowl!

Veterans Day in Oahu

I'll be addressing Oahu Veterans Day activities in a future blog entry as there is a parade in Wahiawa that I hope you are able to attend.

Cleaning A Private Aircraft Interior

Author: Rohit Chopra

The matter of cleaning a private aircraft interior is one of extreme importance, and which should be completely understood before attempted. Some of the areas on a private aircraft interior are of incredible delicacy, and therefore you do not want to be cleaning it improperly, possibly causing damage that will be permanent.

How to Clean a Private Aircraft Interior

A private aircraft interior has hundreds of thousands of dollars invested into it, and therefore it is incredibly important that if you have a private aircraft, or aircraft of any sort that you make sure to have it cleaned properly. If you cannot do it yourself for whatever reason, this means that you must get it done professionally, which is in fact the far preferred way in this case.

There are certain parts of a private aircraft interior that should be cleaned daily. This includes the carpeting, as you should check the carpet and upholstery for any types of substances that may be harder to get off if left on longer; ashtrays, as you should remove the ashtray liners and then empty the contents into the trash container; as for any drop-down tables, in this case you should clean all of the tables using an approved private aircraft interior cleaner and then rinse off before setting back in position.

As for seat belts, you should wipe all seat belts with a cloth that is dampened with an approved cleaner and then place the belts with buckle and tab crossed on the passenger seat. As well, all windows and armrests and other areas should be wiped clean.

In regards to the galley areas, the trash should be removed, countertops should all be wiped with a cloth and with a disinfectant, all microwaves and coffee makers should be rinsed and disinfected and left open to allow to dry, all floors should be properly mopped, all trash containers should be wiped out and disinfected, as well all carpets should be vacuumed and steam cleaned if necessary.

As for items that can be cleaned periodically as opposed to daily, this includes such things as: blankets, storage bins, window blinds, ceilings, and windows.

However, if you are not interested in doing any of this yourself, there is always the option of hiring a professional to come in and do it for you, although you obviously will be paying more in regards for their labor.

Five Affordable World Travel Destinations

Author: santosh kumar

So
you want to travel the world but you have a tight budget?
Are you tired of reading about everyone else’s exotic adventures and
ready to have some of your own? Have
you always wanted to take an international vacation but thought you couldn’t
afford it? There are numerous
travel destinations across the worlds that are both exciting and affordable.
Five of them are described here to give you ideas and get you started
planning your own getaway.

There
are two ways to approach affordable vacations to distant destinations.
Either you will save money getting there or the savings will occur once
you arrive at your selected spot. If
you want the trip there to be affordable, many travel consolidators recommend
choosing well-known destinations that are served by numerous airlines and
receive millions of travelers each year. The
competition for customers usually drives costs down for everything from lodging
to tour packages. Airfares between
major hubs tend to be more affordable and there are often plenty of discounts
and last minute travel deals.

London
In
Europe, London is a top pick for affordable vacation destinations, for these
exact reasons. Not only do you have
more flights to choose from, they are cheaper than if you flew to a more remote
location. On average, staying in
London may be a bit more expensive than other European destinations, but the
seemingly endless choices in hotels, restaurants, transportation, tours, and
other travel essentials gives travels opportunities to mold their vacation to
fit their budgets. And you can use
London as your home base to set out on day trips to other more exotic locations
or buy a Eurorail pass and see those more remote countries without the expense
of flying there.

Playa
del Carmen, Mexico
This
theory also works well for traveling in the Caribbean.
Belize is an appealing destination, with wonderful Caribbean beaches and
a lush tropic setting, but since it has only recently emerged as a popular
travel destination, it is more expensive than Cancun, Jamaica or other
well-traveled locations along the Mayan Riviera.
With fewer flights, getting there is more expensive, and there are few
moderate lodging options. Development
of larger luxury resorts have begun to boom, but the only real alternative for
those on a budget is staying in local facilities that may be hard to locate from
home and may be more rustic than most travelers are willing to try.

Although
there are many options for affordable vacations in the Caribbean, an excellent
pick is Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Accessible
via flights to Cancun, which are often some of the cheapest in the region, Playa
is just a half hour away. It is
filled with a multitude of lodging choices, from expansive luxury resorts on the
ocean to quaint but clean hotels downtown.
From Playa, travelers can branch out and visit Tulum and other locations
on the Mayan Riviera or take the ferry across to the island of Cozumel where
snorkeling is prime and the attractions are many.

For
Asian destinations, travelers often do better to focus on saving money once they
get to their destination. Depending
on your country of origin, getting to just about any spot in Asia is going to be
a sizable chunk of your travel budget. The
difference will come from the cost of lodging, food, entertainment and other
travel expenditures once you arrive. By
choosing destinations where you get the most for your money, you can save a
great deal on your international vacation.
A drink or dinner in Tokyo will cost you many times more than what it
would in Saigon. The key here is to
go where your dollars buy you more and where the local cost of living is low.

Tioman
Island
An
affordable yet exotic choice for Asia is Malaysia and specifically Tioman
Island, knows as the mythical 'Bali Hai' from the film 'South Pacific.’
Tioman Island is located at the southern end of the east coast of
Malaysia on the South China Sea. Its sandy beaches, bordered by lush jungles and
stunning mountains make it a relaxing yet intriguing destination, ideal for sun
lovers, snorkelers and divers. The
island also has many villages for exploring and shopping.
English is widely spoken and the
rates are amazingly affordable, with a two night lodging package for a suite at
a lovely oceanside resort averaging around 100 U.S. dollars.
Typically visitors reach the island via the speed ferry from the
mainland. Although the trip can
take over two hours, it is enjoyable and provides opportunities for dolphin
watching along the way.

Buenos
Aires
South
America also has many destinations that are affordable because of the savings
once you arrive. Locales like Rio
de Janeiro in Brazil, the areas top destination, are coming down in price but
are still more expensive than cities such as Buenos Aires in Argentina, where
the rates are lower and the U.S. dollar goes further.

A
huge metropolis that is more European than South American, the city has much to
offer including cultural events, thriving nightlife, shopping, local sports, and
a host of tours and excursions. La
Boca, with its street performers, shops, and unique architecture is a big
tourist draw. The large number of
choices for lodging, restaurants, and activities provides opportunities for
budget travel and savings. Airfare to the city is relatively reasonable for an
international destination, with discount fares from the U.S. averaging around
$500 round trip. Buenos Aires might
not be one of the most exotic or inspiring destinations in South America, but it
is a city that everyone should see at least once, and with some of the most
affordable rates and fares around, it makes the list as a top South American
destination.

Las
Vegas
The
list would not be complete without a North American destination, and the champ
of all affordable locales is Las Vegas. It
too is a city that should be seen at least once, and many world travelers return
again and again for the gaming, art, shows and people watching that just can’t
be found anywhere else. Close
enough to other top U.S. attractions like the Grand Canyon, Vegas provides other
options for those who have had their fill of casinos.

The
city has long been known for its cheap vacation packages with hotels and resorts
that offer discount rates for rooms, meals and entertainment in hopes of
attracting people to their gaming tables. Airfare
rates into Vegas are some of the most reasonable in the United States, no matter
the origination destination. And
with more than 100,000 hotel rooms to choose from, there is sure to be a lodging
choice that fits your budget.

The
world provides hundreds of affordable travel destinations. With all the options available, there is no excuse to put off that
life-long desire to travel to exotic places at the far ends of the earth. Destinations can be researched on the Internet or your
travel
consolidator can make
recommendations and help with locating cheap
international airfare and
lodging rates that fit your budget. So
what are you waiting for? Get out
there and explore the world.

Quick Tips for Disney Vacation Deals

Author: Miriam Boh

Planning a Disney vacation is relatively easy with all the online tools available, but finding good Disney vacation deals requires a little more research. There are, however, some simple strategies to getting the best discounts on your Disney World trip.

Do comprehensive research before booking your vacation as many reservations require a deposit. Failing to investigate all available options can result in unnecessary expenses as you may not be getting the best deal. Furthermore, you risk getting locked in to a bad deal too early.

Work out your budget. Know how much you can spend on your Disney vacation as you do not want to rack up a huge debt from the trip. Estimate the costs associated with all aspects of your vacation. This includes lodging and travel, park admission, rental cars, dining, souvenirs, and play money. Remember that all these expenses must be at factored into your overall budget.

Once you have a budget, you may consider using a Disney vacation package as you look into Disney vacation deals. Disney offers a number of different options. Each option offers different levels of inclusive costs, such as lodging, park tickets, and meals. However, if you choose to invest in a vacation package, be sure you are able to use all the package benefits during your visit to Disney. Many people waste their money by upgrading to packages with features they will never use, wasting hundreds of unused dollars.

The area surrounding Disney World is filled with great attractions. Explore the area and see if you can find free or cheap entertainment and food. Often, you may find activities that don't require spending any money. There are also numerous lodging options off-site. Consider spending two or three days directly on-site at the park and then transferring to a cheaper off-site hotel after your visit to the Disney resort area. This will not only save you money on lodging and dining, but it will also add excitement and joy to your vacation.

Planning in advance for Disney vacation is important if you want to secure an affordable and yet enjoyable vacation. Looking into various Disney vacation deals helps you to cut a few dollars here and there so that you can have money for extra attractions or to buy a special souvenir in remembrance of your trip. Don't underestimate the savings you receive from more research. A few dollars here and there adds up to a lot when you bring the whole family along.

My Top Five Skiing Holiday Resorts

Author: Anna Stenning

One of my favourite type of holiday is skiing. As a woman I am conscious about my legs, hips thighs and most important of all, my gluteus maximus! Therefore, for me the best vacation are skiing holidays with lots of my mates, that way I can relax, drink and eat as much as I want, but at the same time I can burn off the food by doing lots of skiing toning my thighs and bum. However, opting for a holiday in the sun and lounging on the beach is another favourite of mine!

Skiing fans will undoubtedly have some idea of the best places to visit and enjoy the fantastic buzz of skiing with your mates. In addition, you may have picked your favourite skiing holidays destinations, as some expert skiers may prefer different places for the slope surfaces. Personally I go for the most friendliest resorts rather than be fussy over how slippery the slope needs to be. Therefore, here are my personal top five choices for the best skiing vacation.

Starting from the bottom at number 5 for skiing holidays would have to be Turin, Italy. Although, I am a big fan of Italian food (and if I may add the wine), it had once played host to the 2006 Winter Olympics. With fantastic views and good transportation (approximately one hour away from the main train stations), this was a good a holiday for those who are into skiing regularly - not so friendly for beginners though.

Number 4 would have to the famous Aspen, best known as the celebrity hot spot - however unfortunately I did not get to meet anyone of particular interest. Aspen is relatively hassling free mixing a bit of glamour with sporty fun. Guides are comprehensive, which include which airlines include skiing boards on board and transportation is easy to get hold of in order to travel to you lodgings making it easier to carry everything over.

Number 3 is of course Austria. The first time I ever went skiing was in Austria, as part of a trip with my school - since then I was hooked. It would therefore be safe to say that this place actually has some sentimental value to me, most of the time when I visit Austria I have a strong feeling of nostalgia. My coaches were very friendly and the lodgings were great - if you were a student. I would highly recommend this as your first skiing resort.

Number 2 is Croatia. Again, this is more of a nostalgia trip for me, but Croatia has fast become a popular holiday destination in itself. Though their skiing facilities do not match that of its borders, such as Italy and Austria, it does however make a great family fun holiday and is a great place during the skiing season. Always worth visiting the Croatian Olympic Centre whilst you are up there in Mount Sljeme.

Now we come to my final Number 1 spot for skiing, which is French Alps. This has been one of the top destinations for many years. My favourite spot in particular is The Three Valleys - it has more than 410 miles of skiing slopes and only has the slopes and the ski lifts connected to it. Add to that the120 km for cross-country skiing this marks as a skier's haven!

You may or may not agree with me, or you may even be interested in going on your first skiing holiday, however, this is just my top five lists for skiing destination. This is not based on popular public voting or demands, it is however intended for people to think about their top five destinations and possible trips ideas.

Paris Street Fashion

Author: Vasilisa

People have many stereotypes. Especially towards the other nations. Some of them are not merely stereotypes but the very truth, while the other are a complete falsehood.

Before going to Paris and meeting the Parisians I used to think the capital citizens are all dressed-up, as if they have just went down the catwalk. And I was surprised when I saw the Parisians with my own eyes. They turned out to be dressed like millions of Europeans – each in his or her way. I mean there are people who keep up with the latest fashion trends and wear only Gucci or Prada. But there are many of them who wear inexpensive brands and don’t care about the caprices of vogue.
So I got interested in the subject. I decided to ask people in the Paris streets what they are in and why.

The first mademoiselle I stopped was Linda. She is a designer and names Pierre Cardin her favourite fashion designer. She answered positively when I asked her if she wore her own clothes. She also buys them in different shops. For instance she likes Morgan and drops in at H&M. She said she doesn’t keep up with the latest trends and creates her own style.

Antuan was my next interviewer. He is an extremely interesting personality I should say. Very elegant and stylish in spite of his age (he’s about 70). He said he is cut out to be a man of fashion. He buys clothes in luxurious designer boutiques but doesn’t follow the fashion laws. He said he would never put on a thing at the season he bought it. No sooner than in a couple of years, he added.

A young couple I talked to turned out to be Scandinavians. They stand out against the background of the other people by an impressive appearance: the girl wears leggings and a shirt with a belt over it. The guys buy clothes at second-hand shops and never read fashion magazines.

Fabrice was the next. He is an expatriate Brazilian. The young man is a dancer and works for Jeune Ballet de Paris. He complained that it’s difficult to live in Paris if you wear clothes that are bright and out of style. But he got used to eccentric items and doesn’t care about the opinion of the society. He prefers to buy clothes at open-air bazaars choosing things he likes. He said he doesn’t keep to any style because he’s an actor and he is fond of transformations.

In northeastern regions of the city live expatriates from Arab and African countries people dress quite differently. They prefer to buy clothes in small stores run by their compatriots. The goods at such stores are of a simple cut, gleam with silver and gold and are decorated with different ethnic elements. Golden rings and big bracelets are all the fashion here. Girls wear jeans with strass and flaring tops, guys sport peaked caps and golden bangles, corpulent women prefer to wear African turbans.

I found out that overwhelming majority of the youngsters do the shopping at Etam and Zara. Those who like something more original drop in at H&M. Lots of them like vintage stores. Sometimes the prices there are so high that the youngsters can afford to pay a visit there only on special occasions. Lots of young people favour second-hand shops. All in all I can say that most Parisians combine things: they wear some brand items with interesting accessories, things brought from abroad trips or articles found in the Grandmother’s wardrobe.

One shouldn’t be afraid of experiments, they say. That is the key to the unique style.

Living in France - is it One Long Holiday?

Author: Robin Dengate

Anyone who is considering upping sticks and moving abroad, has probably at least considered France as their new home. But what are the plusses and minusses?

The popular subjects which come up for discussion amongst the people I meet are generally: Lifestyle, food and wine, cost of living, health service, transport infrastructure and work.

So lets look at the fors and againsts:

Lifestyle

We all have our own ideal for a wished for lifestyle, but what is that appeals with regard to France? I would say it is the feeling one gets when living here that nothing matters too much if it's a bit late! (Except maybe your income tax payments). For example, many shops don't open until 9.30am - then they close again at mid-day! So, you set out at 11.50am after your laid back breakfast of coffee and croissants, and after you have finished reading your newspaper, to go get some supplies for your planned evening meal with your delightful new french neighbours - only to arrive at "les magasins" just as the shutters go down for the lunch break.

Never mind, you can hang around a bit, maybe play a game of Petanque or Boules with the locals, whilst sipping a cold beer fom "le bar" - the shops will soon be open again, won't they. The prompt ones maybe, but around our way the smaller village shops don't bother to open again until the kids come out of school at about 3.30pm. By this time you are so laid back that you've completely forgotten what you came out for.

But at least you met a useful guy while you were waiting, Monsieur Artisan, who says he will come round tomorrow, "pas de probleme" and fix your falling down wall, and clear out your blocked "fosse septique" (septic tank). Except of course, you don't see him for days, and the next time you do, it's outside the bar having "pastis" while you wait for the bloody shop to oen again, because you got up leat again. But he says he'll come tomorrow.

Food and Wine

We've already touched on this above briefly above, in so far as it is really insperable from "Lifestyle" in France. The first thing you notice is that the plonk is cheap. And not only is it cheaper than the UK for recognisable brands, but there are even cheaper substance on sale, that are still quite drinkable. In fact if you study the supemarket shelves in France, you will notice that the largest are is taken with "vin de table" often at around 75centimes a litre!

I certainly wouldn't call myself an expert, but some of this stuff ain't half bad. In fact one evening last summer, we had a couple of gusets staying in our Chambre d'Hote, who nexpectedly asked if could provide a meal We don't do this routinely, but agreed to rustle up something for them. Now, we are not "great" drinkers ourselves, and barely know our Bordeaux from our Bourgogne, but this particular evening all we had in the house was a couple of bottles of "Pays d'Ardeche" which cost less than a one and half Euros for a 1ltr bottle! We quickly decanted some to a carrafe and proudly served it up. Halfway through the meal, the guests call for more wine, "what is it" they ask, "it's very good." I told them it was Pays d'Ardeche, and hoped that sounded impressive enough and they that they hadn't sen it in the supermarket. Anyway they certainly liked it, and next time we went to the supermarket we picked up another 6 bottles.

As for food, personally I cannot really comment on whether French food is better than that of other countries, as I haven't travelled that much - but the French certainly seem to think so! What one does notice is that the French place a lot of importance on fresh food - you only have to take a look at their markets. Fresh produce abounds, from small stall holders with a couple of boxes of spuds (sorry, pommes de terre, or indeed, "potates" as they are known in the local patois) to magnifique spreads of all the fruit and veg, in all possible colours you could imagine. But, don't think that you will be buying cheap at the markets. Oh no, the french spen a large propertion of their household budget on food and you can see why when you see the market prices.

Some say it that, in comparison, your weekly shopping costs much more in France, but we soon learnt that if you buy what the French buy, and don't try to use your UK shopping list, then in fact, you should save considerably. (Appologies to readers from other than the UK).

As for eating out, I try not to recommend particular restaurants, as one never knows when the regular chef might be on his holidays and his mother has been propped up in the cuisine with her zimmer frame and slippers to cover for him - it has been known - really! But a quick tour around any reasonable centre will reveal a host of establishments offering pretty good fare, from around just 10 Euros a head upwards and, as with the wine, don't asume cheap means poor quality. Certainly for 15 euros you can eat a very good three course meal with a glass of wine.

Cost of living

Oops, think we just covered most of this, although arguments continue to rage over the level of utility bills which can vary considerably between areas, notably for your water supply. As for heating bills, it is said that a large majority of French houses (in rural France anyway) are heated using wood stoves fed with wood which doesn't appear on any invoices or busines accounts anywhere! Ask the locals and watch out for trees being felled, you won't need to look far!

Health service

Touchy subject this one in light of recent changes to French rules on state health cover. What I believe is not in doubt, is that France offers one of the best healthcare services in the world. However, what is also pretty obvious if one follows the press here, is that France can't afford it! As for comparing costs to the individual, it is pretty near impossible to make a comparison, as every ones case is different, with a diverse set of social security contribution calculation methods, for differing categories of individual. Then there is the optional "top up" private insurance which covers the differece between the amount paid by the state, and the actual cost of treatment or medication. These policies however, are nothing like conventional medical insurance, requiring no medical examination, and in fact being pretty reasonably priced. As with all insurance the catch is in knowing which level of cover to buy.

Transport Infrastructure.

Again, here I would say that France has much of the world and certainly the UK (where I hail from, in case you hadn't guessed) comletely beaten. The roads are first class and mainly empty. Fuel is still significantly cheaper than the UK (at time of writing March 2008). Car users only have to pay a "road licence fee" when they buy or change a car, not annually. And before enyone mentions the cost of autoroute tolls, they are not compulsory, are they? We only pay motorway tolls when we have along distance to cover ie when taking our holidays, and on the whole the non motorway major routes are so good

that one can still travel great distances with few, if any, delays and arrive at the planned time.

The rail links for most of the country are excellent, especially the TGV routes, and although I don't use them much, I believe that they pretty much run on time. Only buses come in for a bit of stick. Because if you happen to be in a rural location, as many French houses, or indeed, holiday properties are, there are no buses! If you see a bus shelter, don't bother to wait in it, unles you are prepared to wait for the "l'autobus de l'ecole" or school bus - which is the only time you are likely to see one!

Work / Jobs

Tricky one, this. The French employment situation is pretty poor really. So if you are thinking o coming to France to live and work - think hard and do your homework. There are jobs for skilled workers, particularly, I gather, in I.T. In fact I heard somewhere recently that if you have rally good computer skils you can get a job o the "Airbus" project in Toulouse, even if you don't speak French!

Speaking reasonable French is a must if you expect to get anywhere in the jobs market, it goes without saying, but in spite of the notoriously dense maze

of rules and beuracracy one has too wade through, there are many posiblities for non-French to set up in business on their own. Probably the most popular occupation for incomers is to run some sort of holiday accommodation, such as self catering cottages, or "gites" as they are known in France, wit Bed and Breakfast, or "Chambre d'Hotes", coming close behind.

Anyone with good language skills shouldn't have too much problem setting up some sort of advisory/translation type business, as there are plenty of non-French residents here that don't speak the lingo very well, if at all!

Finally, my advice is, if you are thinking of moving to France - and having done it myself rather on impulse - spend some time here looking at all the aspects first. Maybe take a couple of weeks at least on "research" holidays (vacations to you US guys!) or even better spend a couple of months by taking a long winter let somewhere. There are plenty of English speakers and ex-pats renting out cottages, appartements or even farmhouses who, will be only too glad to give you the benefit of their experiences at the same time.

Choosing the Best Hawaii Vacation Package

Author: Jon Arnold

Deciding on which Hawaii vacation package to purchase really depends on what your trip is going to consist of when you go. Decisions like this can be quite overwhelming due to the fact that Hawaii is one of the biggest dream vacations of many couples and families around the United States. This means it will most likely be a one time experience for the majority, so trying to make it a perfect memory is on the minds of almost everyone. Include the fact that it can be quite expensive, and it makes finding a package deal very important.

When purchasing a Hawaii vacation package it is a given that this is going to include the accommodations and airfare, but after that everything else is up in the air. This is where finding out what everyone wants to do on the vacation comes into play. While you're there do you want to scuba dive, snorkel, take a tour, eat out three times a day, go shopping, and learn to surf or anything else that will make it more enjoyable? Maybe even something you cannot do in many over places, like taking a para-sailing lesson? If so then finding this within the package will also help you financially.

While we can't give specific costs because everyone has their own unique things that want to be included in the trip, we can tell you that many of the hotels and resorts will give you additional discounts on excursions and other events if you stay with them on the island. One place may offer a free scuba diving adventure or a discounted tour to see the volcanoes. Others may throw in helicopter rides, kayak fishing, or other exciting experiences that are just what you want to spend money on and they can give it to you for less.

This is exactly why it is important to know what you want to do before going because getting the most out of a Hawaii vacation package is the main goal here. However, when gaining in one area of the vacation you may be giving away in others spots. Even though your deal may include your airfare, hotel, and a couple things on the island, paying full price for other things may not really help the overall cost of the vacation. This means it may come down to choosing to do one thing and giving up the other. If this happens and money is an issue, maybe its best to go with the package that is going to save more money instead of what all is included.

It is all food for thought, but it can only help you in your quest to finding the ultimate Hawaii vacation package. If there is anything you want to take from this article, the importance of the best airfare, cost of resort or hotel, and car rental are the big three that should always be included. The rest should be considered as bonuses so if you get them great, but if they are sacrificed for the stay, air, and car then maybe they aren't that important. In the end it is your decision, but we hope this helps point you in the right direction into finding the best vacation package for your trip to Hawaii.
